(Launched from the Acad. Year 2022-23)

The Institute offers new and exciting opportunities to Bachelor’s degree holders with a keen sense of scientific enquiry for pursuing advanced research in frontier areas of Life and Chemical Sciences leading to an M Sc degree. These 2 years Master’s degree programs consist of foundational and flexible coursework and hands-on laboratory training. The design is aimed to develop experimental skills in advanced techniques for research, leading to an independent thesis research project. Students enrolled in the M Sc programmes can personalize their coursework and research projects. Details of the eligibility criteria and admission processes are described below.

Educational Qualification: A minimum of first class or equivalent in Bachelor’s or an equivalent degree in Physical, Chemical or Biological Sciences (including Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical, Veterinary Sciences and Agricultural Sciences) (or) A minimum of first class or equivalent in BE /B Tech degree.

Selection Process: Candidates will be short listed for interview based on their JAM 2024 BT, CY, MA, PH Rank / GATE in BT, BM, EC, EY, MA, PH, XL score, final selection will be based on their performance in interview

Educational Qualification: A minimum of first class in B.Sc. or an equivalent degree with Chemistry as one of the main subjects with Mathematics at the PUC or Plus 2 level.

Qualifying examination:JAM 2024 in Chemistry (CY)

Selection Process: Based on 100% performance in the JAM 2024 CY Rank

Areas of study:Quantum Chemistry, Statistical Mechanics, Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Organic Reactions, Spectroscopy, Main Group Chemistry, Organometallic Chemistry.

Notes:

(a) The names of the Candidates short-listed for the interview will be posted on the applicant’s interface on IISc admission portal. Shortlisted candidates can take a print-out of the interview letters from the respective candidate’s LOGIN page and make necessary arrangements for attending the interview. No separate communication will be sent by post.

(b) Candidates called for interview should bring with them attested copies of all the transcripts (marks cards from SSLC or its equivalent onwards, degree certificates of the qualifying examinations, etc.) and produce them before the interview committee, failing which they will not be interviewed.

(c) Candidates belonging to the SC/ST category should bring the original caste/tribe certificate, issued by a competent authority for the purpose of verification.

(d) OBC candidates belonging to the non-creamy layer/minorities (as listed in the Central list) must produce the valid OBC-NCL certificates issued on or after 01 April 2024 by a competent authority at the time of interview.

(e) Candidates belonging to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) must produce the original Income and Asset Certificate issued on or after 01 April 2024 by the competent authority.

(f) Candidates belonging to the persons with disability (PwD) and Kashmiri-Migrants (KM) categories should produce the originals of the appropriate certificates, issued as per Government of India rules, and Kashmiri Pandit/Kashmiri Hindu Family living in Kashmiri valley should produce Kashmiri valley domicile certificate.

(g)  At the time of joining, candidates should have completed all the requirements for the award of the qualifying degree including all examinations, dissertation projects, viva voce, etc. Only candidates who produce all the mark sheets and degree certificates (original/provisional) issued by the University Authorities will be given admission.

(h) The students enrolled for M.Sc programmes are not eligible for scholarships.

NOTE: The results for some of the recent National Entrance Tests, such as GATE/ JAM etc, may not be available at the time of submitting the IISc admissions application. You must enter the available details of these exams, such as your enrolment/ roll number, paper, etc., in the application, but you may leave the score/rank/results blank. You will have the option to update your national entrance results in the application from the main “Application Status” page. You must make this update within 3 days of the results being declared.
