 Is there an NRI quota at IISc?

No, there is no NRI quota for admissions at IISc. The candidate has to apply through the regular admission portal.

How does one fill the online application form for admissions?

    • I am an CFTI Graduated student. Can I register at this Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP)?
      • Case I: Candidates graduating / graduated from CFTI who have a valid GATE score and intend to apply for M.Tech Admission in the participating Institutes, then the candidate should register at COAP 2024 with their valid GATE score(s).
        Case II: Candidates graduating/ graduated from CFTI with BE/ B.Tech. or equivalent degree and having CGPA (cumulative grade point average) ≥ 8.0 (on a scale of 10) and above can directly apply to the M.Tech. Admission in participating departments. They should not register at COAP.
    • I am a AMIE degree holder; am I eligible to apply to M.Tech./Research programs?
      • B.E./B.Tech. equivalent examinations of Professional Societies, recognized by MoE/UPSC/AICTE (e.g AMIE by Institutions of Engineers). Note: Candidates enrolled upto 31.05.2013 with professional societies (e.g AMIE) recognized by MoE are only eligible to apply.
    • I have a Diploma and I am an AMIE degree holder; am I eligible to apply to M.Tech./ Research programs?
      • B.E./B.Tech. equivalent examinations of Professional Societies, recognized by MoE/UPSC/AICTE (e.g AMIE by Institutions of Engineers). Note: Candidates enrolled upto 31.05.2013 with professional societies (e.g AMIE) recognized by MoE are only eligible to apply.
    • What are the criteria for applying to M.Tech./ M.Des. programs?
      • BE/B Tech with minimum of second class with a valid GATE score is the criterion for M.Tech./ M.Des. programs with a valid GATE/CEED.
    • What is the duration of M.Tech./M.Des./ M Mgt programs?
      • The duration is 2 years (4 semesters).

  3. Integrated Ph.D. program
    • I have a degree from a CFTI. Can I apply for the Integrated PhD program without a JEST/JAM score?
      • Unfortunately, the waiver of a national entrance test for applicants with a 4-year degree from a CFTI and a CGPA >=8.0 out of 10.0 is only allowed for those applying to our regular PhD programmes. Those applying to the Integrated PhD programme need to meet the Eligibility criteria listed here.
    • What are the streams/disciplines available in the Integrated Ph.D. program?
      • Integrated Ph.D. programs in the Biological, Chemical, Physical and Mathematical Sciences are available.
    • I am an M Sc, Biotechnology candidate and am in the 2nd semester, with a B Sc in Microbiology, am I eligible to apply for the Integrated Ph.D. program?

  4. Research program (M.Tech. (Res)/ Ph.D.
    • I have a degree from a CFTI. Can I apply to the Ph.D. programme without a GATE score?
      • Graduates of any course with a minimum duration of FOUR years, from any approved CFTI, with a minimum CGPA of 8.0 out of 10 or its equivalent, are eligible to apply to the regular Ph.D. programme without requiring any other National Entrance Tests. This CFTI Mode of Entry is not available to the M.Tech., M.Tech.(Research) or Integrated Ph.D. programmes.
    • I have a degree from an institution listed as a CFTI in other websites. But it is not listed under the list of CFTIs on the Admissions Website or on the Admissions Portal. Can I apply to the Ph.D. programme under the CFTI mode of entry?
      • IISc periodically updates the list of CFTIs relevant to our degree programmes. Only these institutions are considered for the CFTI mode of entry for the PhD programme at IISc.
    • I have a B.E./B.Tech. degree. Can I apply for the Ph.D. programme?
      • Engineering departments/disciplines consider students with a B.E./B.Tech. degree and a qualifying GATE score for the Ph.D. programme. The specific qualifying details are given here. At the time of interview, the applicants can inform the department of their preference for the Ph.D. programme.
    • What are the criteria and eligible qualifications to apply for the Research-M.Tech. (Res) program?

    • Can I apply specifically to M.Tech. (Res) or to Ph.D. in the online Research form?
      • No, you cannot apply specifically to M.Tech. (Res) or to Ph.D. program in the Research online form, there is no such option in the Research form.  You can give your option of joining only to M.Tech. (Res) or to Ph.D. program at the time of interview to the department interview committee.
    • I wish to apply for M.Tech. and M.Des. programs. Should I apply through a single application or should I fill in two separate application forms?

      One application form is sufficient to apply to M.Tech. and M.Des. programs; a maximum of 3department/discipline preferences can be entered in one form.

      • For the Research program (M.Tech. (Res)/ Ph.D. section
    • I have a M.Tech./ ME/ M.Des./ M Sc(Engg)/ [MBA or MS or PGDBM or PGDCA (post BE / B Tech)] / M Sc (Tech)/ M Arch/ M Pharm/ MBBS/ M Agri/ M V Sc degree. Should I appear in any of the national entrance test for admission to the Research program?

    • I am a BE, ECE candidate with no valid Gate score. Am I eligible for the M.Tech. (Res) program?
      • All BE/ B Tech/ B Sc (Engg) candidates (in the Engineering disciplines) need to have a valid GATE score for all of the Research programs.
    • I wish to apply for 3 departments. Should I apply through a single application or should I fill in three separate application forms?
      • One application form is sufficient to apply to 3 departments in the Research program.
    • I have  a B Sc degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, and Electronics. Am I eligible to apply for the M.Tech. (Res) program?
      • No you are not eligible. You need to have a M Sc degree with a valid GATE score to apply for the Research (M.Tech. (Res)) program.
    • What is the duration of the Ph.D. program?
      • A Minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 6 years.
    • I have a B Tech degree with an MBA degree will I have to write the National Entrance Test for Ph.D. in Management Studies?
      • Candidates with MBA degrees (post BE/B Tech) do not need to write any National Entrance Tests. You will be called for an interview based on your performance in the qualifying degree.
    • What is the duration of the  M.Tech.(Res) program?
      • The duration of M.Tech. (Res) is of 2 years
    • Can I apply to more than one program?
      • Yes you can apply to more than one program based on your qualifications but must fill appropriate online forms. There is a link in the Applicant’s interface “Apply for another program”; you can use this link for filling in another program form.
    • What are the Important dates for admission to the Research program?

    • When will the Mid-year admissions start or forms be available for the Ph D program?
      • Mid-year admissions for specific Ph.D. programmes will be announced and application solicited in October, for the semester starting on 1st January of the next year. Interviews will be conducted in November. Please visit this Admissions website by October for more details.
    • I have submitted my application but need to update my national entrance test score (e.g., GATE, JAM, etc.) that was published recently. How can I do so?
      • You can update your national entrance test details after submitting your application until the last date specified. Login to the admissions dashboard from the IISc Admissions portal. From the menu on the left side, click on the link ‘Update Your National Entrance Test Result(s)’. Select the application number for which you would like to update the results. Enter the score/marks and click on Save/Update button.
