On April 1st 2023, Astrae the Astronomy club of IISc organized CosmoExpo an event with the main goal of inspiring school students about astronomy and sparking their interest in the field. Around 400 students from various schools across Bengaluru joined us.
The event featured lectures by renowned professors such as Dr. Arnab Rai Choudhuri, Dr. Prateek Sharma and Dr. Aloke Kumar who spoke on various topics related to astronomy, including sun, black holes, galaxies, our place in the universe & astrophotography. We also invited Ms. Anushka, a STEM advocate to inspire students to study the field of astronomy and astrophysics. The lectures were designed to be engaging and accessible to a younger audience.
The highlight of the event was a star-gazing session held at the end of the lectures, where students were able to observe celestial objects using telescopes and binoculars. This gave them a hands-on experience and allowed them to see the concepts they had just learned about in action. The organizers of the event hoped that this experience would leave a lasting impression on the students and inspire them to pursue astronomy in the future.
Overall, CosmoExpo was a successful event that achieved its goal of educating and inspiring young students about astronomy. The lectures by renowned professors and the star-gazing session provided an excellent opportunity for students to learn and engage with the field of astronomy in a fun and accessible way.
