Abstract: The rapid advances in communication technologies from 2G to 4G has ushered in a new era of digitalization of our societies. The impending launch of 5G and the ongoing planning for 6G, will further transform our environment, where connectivity becomes as permeable as air, with profound implications for society and industry. Connectivity is taking its place along with “roti, kapda aur makaan”, as an essential for any individual. We will describe some key technologies, challenges and opportunities for and enabled by pervasive connectivity, via some of ours and others recent and ongoing projects in healthcare IoT, data exchanges and tele-autonomous robots.
