Bronze Shower Tree – Cassia moschata.

Heralding the onset of Summer @ IISc.

This showy handsome tree blooms in the months of February and March every year heralding the onset of summer.

The spectacular tree has bunches of pendant like flowers or unique profuse blooms that are brilliant orange-copper-yellow colored that cascade downwards, hence the name Bronze Shower Tree.

The cassia family is: A tree, shrub, or herbaceous plant of the pea family, native to warm climates. Cassias yield a variety of products, including fodder, timber, and medicinal drugs (such as senna), and many are cultivated as ornamentals.

From Latin cassia (cinnamon).

Currently blooming on the eastern side of the IISc Main building.
