Abstract:

Microengineered devices have found applications in a variety of clinical applications over the last few decades. These devices include miniaturized low-power sensors for wearable devices, sensors that can be used alongside surgery for monitoring vitals, long-term implants for prosthetics, highly sophisticated sensor arrays (Lab-on-a-chip) for diagnosis at home, etc. Several microengineered devices and technologies for clinical research such as tumor diagnosis, studying neurological disorders, and minimally invasive tools will be discussed in this talk. The techniques used for system-level integration for enabling clinical use will be discussed alongside the design and fabrication of these devices

Speaker’s Profile:

Dr. Hardik J. Pandya joined the Department of Electronic Systems Engineering (DESE), Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, in January 2017. Before joining IISc, he worked as a postdoctoral scientist in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Maryland Robotics Center, University of Maryland, College Park (2012-2016) and in the Department of Medicine, Brigham and Women’s Hospital–Harvard Medical School (2016-2017). He obtained his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (2013). His current research focuses on minimally invasive and non-invasive technologies with an emphasis on but not limited to cancer diagnosis (brain, breast, head and neck), e-nose (diabetes, breast cancer screening), Neuroprotective Therapies for Acute Stroke and Epilepsy.  His work has resulted in twelve patents (nine filed and three awarded), three book chapters, and around fifty publications in peer-reviewed journals and conferences. He is a recipient of the prestigious Early Career Research Award from the Science and Engineering Research Board, Government of India, in 2017. Dr. Pandya is also serving as a non-executive Director (Technical advisor) to two Indian Medical Technology companies.
