Title: Translation of Science into Products and Businesses in the Life Sciences sector

Abstract

We have entered the Convergence Phase of knowledge economy. Digitization of every business irrespective of whether it is Agriculture or Food, Finance or Production, Energy or Materials, Health or Wellness is gaining traction at least in the developed economies. Sustainability is an overarching theme across businesses to ensure that they are not negatively impacting the environment and wasting natural resources. Progress in our understanding of reading, writing, editing, composing and assembling DNA, reading and writing RNA and proteins has ushered in a new era in life sciences – enabling the multiple needs of Safety, Specificity, Efficacy, Affordability and Sustainability. These changes are enabling researchers around the world to rapidly translate their scientific breakthroughs into products and services. The rules of engagement however have not changed. Capital availability for building products, services and businesses has dramatically increased. Chance favors the prepared mind – the question then is how should leading research centers organize themselves to succeed and contribute to the burgeoning needs locally, regionally, nationally and globally. This talk will focus on how Spruce Capital Partners is working with entrepreneurs and building the next generation of companies in the non Pharma sectors of Life Sciences.
