Abstract: Intellectual property rights are important business tools to gain competitive advantage and recoup investments in innovation. While businesses consider nowadays their sustainability impact – including social and environmental sustainability, it is time to explore also how to make use intellectual property rights to increase sustainable impact. In the webinar, we present case examples and also provide guidance for Startups, Women Entrepreneurship, businesses – how to reflect and maybe even increase their sustainability impact.
Profile of Speakers:
- Prof Elisabeth Eppinger, University of Applied Sciences, Berlin, Germany
Prof. Elisabeth Eppinger is a Professor in Textile Technology and Sustainability Area, at HTW Berlin, Germany. Her field of work includes textiles and sustainability, technology and protective clothing, IP and innovation, sustainability and climate change. Prof Elisabeth is also Member of Faculty at Design and Culture Department at the University of Applied Sciences Berlin. Her publications include ‘How Open Innovation Practices Deliver Societal Benefits’, ‘Corporate sustainability transitions: Bridging sustainable business model and Intellectual Property research and practice’ ‘Economic outcomes of innovations in carbon capture and utilisation: A fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis’ and ‘Indicators for Technology Analysis – Insights from a Survey of German Technology Analysis Experts’. She is currently the project leader for 3D printing for textiles: structures, processes, substrates and printing filaments for textile applications and Intellectual Property Models to Accelerate Sustainability Transitions – Empirical Evidence (IPACST-EE).
- Dr Frank Tietze, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom
Dr Frank is Associate Professor in Technology and Innovation Management. He is leads the Innovation and Intellectual Property Management (IIPM) Lab, which is part of the Centre for Technology Management. The IIPM Lab takes an engineering management (firm level) perspective and a problem focused research approach on IP for distributed, collaborative and cumulative innovation processes and systems. He is a Board member of the EPIP (European Policy for Intellectual Property) association, departmental editor at IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management for Technology Assessment, Forecasting, Planning and Transfer, IP Management and Licensing, and Editoral board member of World Patent Information.
Frank pursues research at the intersection of engineering/technology, management sciences and business (micro) economics. He has keen interests in particularly in sustainability, but also in entrepreneurship. His work is published widely in leading international journals, such as, Research Policy, Technovation, Technology Forecasting and Social Change, Creativity and Innovation Management, World Patent Information, R&D Management and Plos One.
- Prof Anjula Gurtoo, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore
Prof Anjula is a Professor at the Indian Institute of Science and Chairperson, Centre for Society and Policy at IISc.
Her research interests include Public Policy, Intellectual Property, Environmental Sustainability, Data economics and Equity issues in governance. She Chair’s the institute committee on Women’s Equity and Inclusion and has interacted with women entrepreneurs on various platforms including the Social Innovation Challenge 2020 and Aegis Graham Bell Awards for Tech Innovation. She has been awarded the Chevening Rolls-Royce Science and Innovation Leadership Fellowship, British High Commission, United Kingdom. 2017; Pt. Jawaharla Nehru National Award. Outstanding contribution in the field of Public Policy and Social Science. Department of Science and Technology. Government of Madhya Pradesh, India. 2010-2012 and ICSB-IJGE-NWBC Best Paper on Women entrepreneurship. International Council of Small Business and University of Washington, D.C., USA. 2010.
