DESE Faculty Member receives 2022 ABB Research Award

Dr Utsav Banerjee (Assistant Professor, Department of Electronic Systems Engineering) has been awarded the 2022 ABB Research Award in honour of Hubertus von Grünberg to continue his research on innovative integrated circuits and systems for increased security of connected devices in the Internet of Things. This is among the highly endowed global research awards given by a corporation and is awarded every three years to an early-career academic researcher selected from several international applications through a highly competitive review process.

Dr Banerjee’s research interests include cryptography, hardware security, digital circuits and embedded systems. He earned his BTech degree in electronics and electrical communication engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur in 2013, and his SM and PhD degrees in electrical engineering and computer science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2017 and 2021 respectively. Since October 2021, Dr Banerjee has been with the Indian Institute of Science, where he currently leads the Secure Intelligent and Efficient Systems (SINESys) Lab working on various research directions including efficient implementation of quantum-secure cryptography, computation on encrypted data, network security protocols and hardware accelerators.
