Title: A Journey Through Active Matter
Date: 29th November 2018 at 4pm
Venue: Faculty Hall, Main Building
ABSTRACT
Materials whose individual constituents consume free energy and move autonomously as a result are known as Active Matter. The living state serves as both inspiration and pre-eminent example. My talk will summarise recent work with colleagues and students on the organising principles, phase transitions, and surprises in the statistics and dynamics of active systems.

He completed his higher secondary education in 1973 at The Modern School, New Delhi, his BS in physics at the University of Maryland (1977) and a PhD in physics at the University of Chicago (1983). After a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania (1983-86) he joined IISc. He is a condensed matter and statistical physicist with interests in nonequilibrium, soft and living systems. You can learn more about him at http://www.physics.iisc.ac.in/~sriram/
