A paper authored by researchers from IISc, led by GS Bhat (Professor, Centre for Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences), has been featured in a special collection of the Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, London.
The paper, first published in 2006, uses field measurements from an oceanic campaign with Indian research vessels, to understand and explain the physics of drought within the monsoon season. It demonstrates how to use observations made from a particular time and spatial location to answer important science questions with large societal impact.
