PARASPAR
Invites you to a lecture on
Science, Technology and Knowledge Economy
Knowledge economy is not a separate economy, as it is often made out to be. It is only the latest phase of capitalism, namely techno-capitalism, which commodifies technology and science for profit accumulation. This commoditisation detaches knowledge from its user and locks it up as patents and intellectual property rights (IPR), which are intangible assets that function both as commodity and capital. This economy constrains scientists to be technologists and transacts their outputs as IPR and patents at unimaginable prices, leading to the development of corporate houses with huge research establishments established globally. The lecture seeks to unravel the consequences of this knowledge economy.
