Abstract of the Event:
The Eindhoven region has a rich history in precision engineering with the world’s top firms having started up and located . In the field of medical robotics, the experiences from high tecg precision industrial motion systems are being used successfully at our research labs at TU/e and its spin off Medical Robotics Technologies. Examples are Preceyes – the world’s first eye surgical robot; Microsure – a micro surgical instrument for the use in reconstructive surgery. For the skull base we are developing an autonomous bone robot, and for brain surgery a deep brain high precision position instrument. In the care sector, the developments are to enable robotics for use in homes, hospitals and senior homes. For India, our plans are to work with best surgeons and hospitals to enable affordable medical robots.
Brief Biography of the Speaker:-
Maarten Steinbuch (1960) is Distinguished University Professor at Eindhoven University of Technology. He received the M.Sc. degree and Ph.D. Degree from Delft University of Technology, in 1984 and 1989 resp. From 1987-1998 he was with Philips Research Labs., Eindhoven as a Member of the Scientific Staff. From 1998-1999 he was manager of the Dynamics and Control group at Philips Center for Manufacturing Technology. Since 1999 he is full professor and chair of the Control Systems Technology group of the Mechanical Engineering Department of Eindhoven University of Technology.
He was Editor-in-Chief of IFAC Mechatronics (2009-2015), and is Scientific Director of the Research Centre High Tech Systems of the Federation of Dutch Technical Universities, member of the board of AutomotiveNL, member of the Formule E team, member of the advisory board of The High Tech Institute and of Nobleo Technology BV, (past) co-founder of MI-Partners BV, co-founder of Mechatronics Academy BV, Preceyes BV, MicroSure BV and founder of Steinbuch in Motion BV. He is CEO of Medical Robotic Technologies BV, and faculty of SingularityU Netherlands. Since 2014 he is also Scientific Director of the TU/e High Tech Systems Center HTSC.
His research interests are modeling, design and control of motion systems, robotics, automotive powertrains and of fusion plasmas.
