Description about Tarangini and Artist Debmitra Sengupta
‘TARANGINI’ – AN ENCHANTING JOURNEY OF ODISSI
The incessant flow of Odissi dance through ages starting from the ancient to the medieval and to the modern times like a river – ‘Tarangini’, the journey continuous imbibing different changes in costume,musical instruments, dancing patterns yet maintaining the true spirit of Odissi.
We celebrate this mesmerizing Indian heritage through vibrant compositions.

Dance presentation by : Debamitra Sengupta & her team from Mayur Lalit Dance Academy, Kolkata. The team has recently performed ” Tarangini” at different cities of Canada on the occasion of Canada 150 as cultural ambassadors of India being sent by ICCR and Ministry of External India, Govt. of India.

About Debamitra Sengupta :

Debamitra Sengupta, internationally acclaimed Odissi exponent, a senior disciple of Late Padmavibhushan Guru Kelu Charan Mahapatra, has been appreciated both as a performer and choreographer in the field of classical Odissi dance in the country and abroad for the last three decades.
She had also honed her skills under the able guidance of Late Padmashree Sanjukta Panigrahi and Smt. Sutapa Talukdar.
Debamitra is an ‘A’ Grade Doordarshan Artist (National – Prasar Bharati) , empanelled artist of ICCR – Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India , empanelled artist of EZCC – Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India, and Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh, recipient of Production Grant from Ministry of Culture, Government of India, enlisted artist under Spic Macay and blessed to have been bestowed with the honour of ‘Aasthana Vidushi’ from the 33rd Acharya of Shakatapuram, Shrividya Peetam, Karnataka for her characteristic soulful renditions.
